What is a Precinct Chair?

At the grassroots level of the Democratic Party's leadership structure are publicly elected Precinct Chairs. These officials are elected during each Democratic primary to serve two-year terms and form the membership of the County Executive Committee (CEC), which governs the Comal County Democratic Party (CCDP). As neighborhood organizers, Precinct Chairs play a crucial role in mobilizing their voting precincts, fostering connections with local Democrats, and directly communicating the CCDP's platform to voters.

Beyond this, they can also engage in various CCDP committees. Being a Precinct Chair is a significant yet enjoyable opportunity to make a real difference by connecting with neighbors, empowering them to vote, supporting Democratic candidates, and having a voice in the Comal County Democratic Party's advocacy for freedom and efforts to get out the Democratic vote.

What is a Precinct Captain?

Precinct Captains perform many of the same functions as Precinct Chairs. They are not elected officials, and have volunteered to conduct grassroots organizing within the precinct. Typically, they do not live in the precinct.
